New Blog!!

Welcome to Irish Roots Acres Blog

I am super excited to start this blog!  I have always wanted to begin a blog, but never felt as though I had anything to blog about.  The past six months has been a whirlwind of activity for my dear husband and I.  Our house on twelve acres has begun the transformation from home in the country to Irish Roots Acres.  We finally decided to take the plunge from thinking and imagining to putting things in motion!  We have lived in our beautiful home in the hills of middle Tennessee for four years now and have been weighing, considering, planning, dreaming, and talking about making the transformation from house to mini farm since before we even moved here.  We originally moved out to the country because I became a bit disenchanted with boarding my two horses and miniature donkey.  They just did not seem to ever receive the care that I felt they needed no matter where we went, so I decided it was time to do things myself.  We had a very small garden during our third summer as well as some laying hens, until my neighbors dog came over and caused The Great Chicken Massacre, as I like to call it.  We gave up on feathered friends due to a bit of heartbreak, I get very attached.

I finally decided that I was tired of researching endlessly with no 'fruit' for my labor.  This year I finally stopped planning and took the plunge.  We currently have a flock of seven chickens (with several more on the way),  I have started my seedlings for the raised beds I am planning to building this week, the beginning of our mini dairy goat herd comes home on the 18th, our hive and bees are on order, and our mini orchard is planned and ready to be ordered.  It seems that this year is going to be packed with new and interesting lessons in the life of a 'mini' farmer and I am greatly looking forward to sharing all of my experiences and journey with others in the hops that it may inspire, help, or at least provide humor to others.

The first project id building our new raised beds and getting the greenhouse set up!  Wish us luck and happy homesteading!
